This also is not fair to children who are there to learn. Grade levels are not determined by age but by knowledge. (side note this is how things used to work in the 1800s it was not uncommon to have a 14 year old farm boy learning to read with a 5 year old). This will take time to reset cultural norms to rewarding success at advancement as opposed to by age. We won’t be able to look down on someone for being 17 and at what is currently a 7th grade level. This already happens to a lesser extent at the Pre-K, Kindergarten, Primer, 1st grade levels where children (particularly in private school) are held back for 1 (or 2) years or pushed forward through one to match their levels. This should continue through all levels.
